Takuya Hirano
Partner and Co-founder
Currently based in Seattle, Takuya Hirano is a recognized global business leader with extensive experience in leading large multi-national organizations. He serves on the board across publicly traded and privately held companies, professional sports organizations, and startup organizations. He also actively engages in helping both publicly and privately held organizations to reach its full potential by serving as their advisor.
During his 17-year tenure at Microsoft, Hirano served as the president of Microsoft Japan, Central Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. Microsoft Japan became the #1 brand in Japan across all domestic and international companies as an outcome of his business transformation initiatives. He also led the Global Alliance Business for System Integrators and Advisory Partners at Microsoft Corp. Prior to Microsoft, he was the president of Hyperion Japan (acquired by Oracle).

Prior to moving to the US, he held several leadership positions in Japanese business organizations, including vice-chairperson for the IT Committee at the Japan Association of Corporate Executives.

Takuya was born in Hokkaido, Japan, and holds a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Brigham Young University.

Ryo Sambongi
Partner and Co-founder
Ryo Sambongi is a Founding Partner of Three Fields Advisors (TFA). For over 30 years after moving to the US, he engaged in a number of cross-border investments and strategic partnerships.
While leading TFA, he serves as Managing Director and US Representative of XIB, Inc., an M&A advisory firm based in Tokyo, Japan and supports Japanese companies to acquire businesses in the US. He is also a founder and owner of euGlobe, L.C., a Utah-based logistics IT company that provides IT solutions to international E-commerce businesses and shipping providers. He also was a founding partner in TMM Development, a Utah-based real estate developer. Prior to his professional experience in the US, he worked as an investment banker at Daiwa Seruciries in Tokyo and as an information specialist for the South African Embassy in Tokyo.

Ryo has been an adjunct professor in international business at the Marriott Schoo of Business, Brigham Young University. He is also known as the Japanese translator of the best-selling business novel 'The Goal' series which has sold over 1.2 million copies in Japan. He has translated and authored over a dozen business books in Japan.

He holds a BA in Commerce from Waseda University and MBA from Brigham Young University. Ryo was born in Fukushima, Japan, lived in Tokyo for 14 years, and currently resides in Orem, Utah.

Tetsuo Kobayashi
Director
Tetsuo Kobayashi is a Director of Three Fields Advisors (TFA). He has many years of academic and professional experience in data science.
​
After receiving a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Utah, he taught at Florida State University while conducting research on the analytical method for geospatial and people flow data. Later, he expanded the scope of his research to include data science.
​
After returning to Japan in 2014, he joined a Silicon Valley startup Pivotal Japan (currently VMWare Japan) as a data scientist. He later served as a data scientist or consultant for MetLife, EMC Japan (currently Dell Technologies), and a Silicon Valley startup One Concern. While teaming up with Takuya and Ryo in Three Field Advisors, he currently serves as Director of Analytical Consulting for Aktana International.

With his expertise in data science and skills in data analysis, he supports a number of companies to develop strategic planning, HR solutions, etc.

Tetsuo was born in Aichi, Japan, grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and currently resides in Tokyo. He holds a BA in humanities from Nagoya University, a Master's degree from the University of Tokyo, and a Ph.D. from the University of Utah.
